A Major Storm
Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi) greatly affected parts of central Philippines in November 2025. Sadly, many families in NVC’s home province of Negros Occidental in the Visayan region lost their homes to the storm. After the winds died down, some families were able to return to where their homes once stood. With the help of kind hearts, NVC gave hundreds of families construction materials so they could build new homes. Unfortunately, other families used to live in areas that were not safe to return to. Because of this, these families lived in evacuation centers for many months.
The local government of La Carlota, Negros Occidental identified 100 families that had to be relocated to a safe area. They provided the land where the families would move to. NVC agreed to build an elevated 27.25-sqm model house with two bedrooms, a common area, toilet and balcony. At the start of the project, we had enough funds to build just one home. We planned to raffle off the home to one lucky family. We had enough funds to give the necessary construction materials to the other 99 families. However, they would have to build the homes themselves.
Fortunately, we were able to get enough funding to build all 100 homes. Furthermore, the city later identified five more families who qualified for housing. Thankfully, we were able to raise enough funds to cover the construction of all 105 homes thanks to generous donors.
In addition to providing the land where we will build the houses, the city will also provide roadways, a sewage system and a water source.

Breaking Ground and Building Homes
February 10 was ground-breaking day. Unfortunately, it rained hard all morning; but we did not let that stop us. The team trooped to the building site in La Carlota where our partners from Cordova Construction Services (CCS) began construction.
Workers get started on the first home.
