Local Artist Pays Tribute to NVC’s Rehabilitation Work in La Carlota after Typhoon Tino

Exhibit at the Negros Museum

On September 25, the exhibit “Diri sa Amon” (Here in Our Place), opened at the Negros Museum. Diri sa Amon will run till January 29, 2027. The exhibit features sculptures of Susanito Pilaro Sarnate, a sculptor from La Carlota, Negros Occidental. These were inspired by the experience of people from La Carlota during and after Typhoon Tino (Typhoon Kalmaegi) which hit the Philippines in November 2025.

NVC President Millie Kilayko and Field Officer Alyne Batano visited the exhibit. They were touched to discover that the artist referenced the work that NVC has been doing in a relocation site in La Carlota. Earlier this year, NVC Foundation built 105 homes for families who had lost their homes to the storm. Sarnate’s collection included house boats with numbers on them. He pointed out that there was one with the number 001 and another with the number 105. The houseboats in the collection represent the 105 homes built by NVC Foundation. Ms. Millie was so moved by the art pieces that she made sure to purchase some of them to add to her personal collection.
