UHA! Mingo reaches the children and youth of Ungkaya Pukan, Basilan Province. Ungkaya Pukan is a new municipality, separated from its mother town of Tipo-Tipo in 2006 under the Muslim Mindanao Autonomy Act No. 190 and ratified by plebiscite. It is a conflict-affected area frequently facing peace and order issues. In 2007, an armed encounter between Islamic rebels and the Philippine army occurred in Tipo-Tipo, which led to the execution of 14 soliders. With the help of the 18th Infantry Battalion of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, we served over 300 children in this community and are in the process of selecting 100 kids who will receive the 6-month Mingo feeding program as part of the peacebuilding process and development of the area.
